Definition of Perseverance

Perseverance is a continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.

So what happens when you FAIL rather than just run into an obstacle...Well you approach FAILURE with perseverance.

HOW?....you try to see it as a learning experience.

“Through perseverance, many people win success out of what seemed destined to be a certain failure” (Benjamin Disraeli)

Why is having perseverance through failure important?

  • Perseverance helps carry you through failures and helps you to adapt.
  • If you fail, that's when the learning begins- from your failures is the means of figuring out what will work for future endeavors.
  • You start learning from your failures you become a risk-taker and as time passes you develop a better understanding of how to handle the risk factor.
  • People start to when know how to handle risk and failure, and they become closer to achieving success.

Here are four important Aspects of Perseverance to keep in mind

  1. Self-Awareness: Notice when you look for excuses, rather than truth, are you letting fear or laziness cause you to quit or procrastinate? If honestly watching yourself is difficult, explain your reasoning to a friend. Close friends may be more likely than you to know when you're rationalizing.
  2. Costs and Benefits: To wisely persevere, you need to see the costs and benefits of what you are doing. You might need to pivot.
  3. Motivation: Once you've made a decision, and you're sure you made it for the right reason, you have to motivate yourself. Perseverance requires that you re-motivate yourself. Write down goals, do daily affirmations, and do whatever else you have to do.
  4. Make it a Habit: is the most powerful secret to success. Practice watching yourself make self-awareness a habit. Practice analyzing costs and benefits objectively, and practice motivating yourself. If what you are doing doesn't work, go read up on other techniques and try something else. That's perseverance.
